Te Noho Kotahitanga is our partnership document created in 2001 to express Unitec's commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi as the founding document of New Zealand. Te Noho Kotahitanga confers equal standing on Māori and non-Māori as described by the principles and values inherent in the agreement. These values are at the very centre of Unitec’s purpose, as stated in Manaakitia te Rito – the Renewal Strategy: Led by Te Noho Kotahitanga; we manaaki the success of our learners and communities.
Our Origins
Te Roopu Mataara is a cohort of Māori kaimahi who work across the two campuses of Te Whare Wananga o Wairaka. We honour the rich whakapapa associated with the whenua we are privileged to be on. We acknowledge Kaumātua, and past and present Pae Arihi who have been instrumental in ensuring a space where Māori can be Māori at Unitec. We humbly continue to uphold the mātāpono of Te Noho Kotahitanga, ensuring that our mahi is underpinned by Rangatiratanga, Wakaritenga, Kaitiakitanga, Mahi Kotahitanga, and Ngākau Mahaki.
We hold bi-monthly hui where we focus on supporting each other as Māori at Unitec through whanaungatanga, shared kai and kōrero. Piki mai, kake mai!
